foUR exists to create a forum for important recordings by friends of UNSEEN RAIN that were produced independently.

 

foUR7997 No Lunch In Hackensack – Chicago-based drummer, arranger and explorer of the edges of the jazz tradition Jimmy Bennington visited multifaceted pianist Steve Cohn’s Hackensack haunts to record this sometimes lyrical, sometimes angular album that not only includes their forays into improvised compositions? but features some very different views of a couple of chestnuts of the jazz repertoire.

foUR7996 Open Lines is the first recording by guitarist and St. Paul native Joel Shapira’s quartet, which includes three other formidable Twin Cities jazz talents – saxophonist Pete Whitman, double-bassist Tom Lewis, and drummer Dave Schmalenberger.

four7995 The Bird, The Girl and The Donkey II – Guitarist and jazz luminary Dom Minasi put together a powerhouse ensemble from the improvised music scene for a live recording of Part 2 of his extended composition, The Bird, The Girl and The Donkey. Performing along with Dom on guitar are Blaise Siwula – alto saxophone/ Ras Moshe – tenor saxophone, flute/ Remi Alvarez, – tenor saxophone, flute/ Matt Lavelle – trumpet, flugelhorn/ Albey Balgochian – double-bass and Jay Rosen – drums.
